Division of Data Science (DDS) was formed in 2014 by Ton Duc Thang University. A group will enhance existing methods and develop new methods in Data mining and Natural language processing.
2. Mission and Vision
DDS aims to develop and apply the research results in the field of Data mining and Natural language processing in Viet Nam and in the world.
Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), http://english.tdt.edu.vn/ is a young and dynamic tertiary institution, with 25,000 students and 900 staff. The University has five campuses in Ho Chi Minh City (two different campuses), Nha Trang Beach, Lam Dong Province and Ca Mau Province in the Mekong Delta region. The University currently has 14 faculties and 13 research divisions. The University is focusing on high quality research and internationalization.
On October 15th of 2014, Prof. Nguyen Le Minh gave a presentation at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU). Prof. Nguyen Le Minh is not only Prof. of Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) but also an advisor of Division of Data Science at TDTU.
Data mining (the analysis step of the “Knowledge Discovery in Databases” process, or KDD), an interdisciplinary subfield of computer science, is the computational process of discovering patterns in large data sets involving methods at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, and database systems. The overall goal of the data mining process is to extract information from a data set and transform it into an understandable structure for further use. Aside from the raw analysis step, it involves database and data management aspects, data pre-processing, model and inference considerations, interestingness metrics, complexity considerations, post-processing of discovered structures, visualization, and online updating.
Natural language processing (NLP) is a field of computer science, artificial intelligence, and linguistics concerned with the interactions between computers and human (natural) languages. As such, NLP is related to the area of human–computer interaction. Many challenges in NLP involve natural language understanding, that is, enabling computers to derive meaning from human or natural language input, and others involve natural language generation.
Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), a young and aspiring university in vibrant Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s economic and educational hub, is proudly committed to Vietnam’s human development and sustainable growth into the 21st century.
Established in 1997, TDTU has steadily developed into one of the largest and fastest growing universities in Vietnam. The most significant milestone of such amazing growth is the inauguration of our main campus in Tan Phong Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City in August 2011. Equipped with modern facilities and state-of-the-art instruments, it allows for the consolidation of many academic disciplines. The old campus in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, however, is still maintained and is now dedicated to the university’s vocational mission when it was first founded.
